Dajie – Commercial District
Dajie is Zhoucun’s biggest and oldest commercial street. It is the center of the Ancient Zhou Village. It started during the Song and Yuan dynasties (960 – 1368 A.D.), but late Ming to early Qing Dynasties (~1500 – 1800 A.D.) witnessed its most prosperous time.
The Dajie Commercial District starts from the intersection of the Silk Market Street and Silver Market Street in the south, and ends at Suyi Gate in the north, totaling 400 meters. The Arctic Pavilion straddles the middle, dividing the street into the southern and the northern sections.
Strolling along the alleyways of Dajie Commercial District, you can see the thick mottled bluestone courtyard walls, the ancient-style round gates, and the exquisite brick carvings of the eaves.
