East Island Seaweed Village
Weihai’s Rongcheng East Island Seaweed Village is a famous historical village in China and a famous traditional ancient village in Shandong. The village was built during the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty (1573-1620) and has many ancient historical artifacts, folklore and fishing custom displays. As of today, there are 650 seaweed houses in this village. This ranks top village in East Shandong. The Haian scenic area is 10km long, being surrounded by sea on three sides with comfortable weather, sunshine and rain. You can find seaweed houses alike in Ireland and Canada’s Cape Breton Island but few have been restored as exhibits. The East Island Village is a “walk-in” living museum.
